New single “Viral” out now

Matthew’s first new single in nearly four years was released on Thursday March 24.

“Viral” is about the accelerated world we live in. A world in which technology grapples with nature and ingenuity spawns unintended consequences. It is a call for humility - a reminder that we don’t know everything, and as we edge closer to the gods we must not lose touch with our common humanity.

Giving a nod to vintage soul and singing live to tape with the band, Barber says what he has to say in two and a half minutes with minimal adornment. The tasteful accompaniment is provided by Jeff Halischuck (drums), Ian McKeown (bass) and Steve O’Connor (keys), with James McKenty capturing the sounds at his studio in Peterborough, Ontario.

Mid-2021 Update

Hi everyone, I hope you’re enjoying the summer. The July long weekend has just passed and the world of live music is showing signs of life. I’ll be playing my first live show in over a year on July 30 in Prince Edward County, ON - please visit the “Tour” section for more info. Over the past year I’ve been busy producing music for other artists as well as working away in my home studio on my own new music. I’m really getting into producing and mixing for other artists and I’m excited about these records that are slated to be released later this year or early next. If you or anyone you know is looking for a producer for your next project please don’t hesitate to get in touch - let’s talk! In the meantime stay safe, get vaccinated if you haven’t already and stay tuned for more announcements of shows and things I’ve been working on. Peace, Matthew.
