The award-winning musical play Haunted Hillbilly returns to Montreal this spring for a lengthy run at the venerable Centaur Theatre in Old Montreal. Produced by the fantastic people at Sidemart Theatrical Grocery and written by Graham Cuthbertson, the show is based on a book by Derek McCormack and features all original music by Matthew Barber who also leads the stellar house band. Set in Nashville circa 1950, the darkly comedic tale revolves around the intertwined fates of Hyram Woodside – a Hank Williams-esque country singer, Nudie – his mysterious tailor/manager, and an oddball cast of rival country stars, carnival barkers, jealous wives, girlfriends and undead henchmen. The mayhem is expertly directed by Andrew Shaver. This multiple MECCA-award winning show runs from May 8 to June 3, 2012 and is NOT TO BE MISSED! You can order tickets here.
A companion album Songs For The Haunted Hillbilly featuring Matthew Barber along with the Haunted Hillbilly band – Joe Grass and Julian Brown, will be EXCLUSIVELY AVAILABLE AT THE CENTAUR THEATRE during the run of the show. This album is comprised of the 12 original songs from the show and features guest appearances by Doug Paisley, Justin Rutledge, Oh Susanna, Julie Fader and more. It will be available on 12″ vinyl, CD and digitally through itunes and other online stores, and will see a wider release on June 5th, 2012.
